Hello everyone,

Just wanted to let you all know that Emily's surgery for tomorrow, Friday, is
off.  She has a runny nose and her ped. won't clear her.  He's afraid it will
turn into something more and with the anesthesia and all that it might turn
into pneumonia.

Needless to say, I am very disappointed.  I know it's the right thing for
her, but I feel like a spoiled brat that is not getting my way.  You plan and
plan and plan, two surgeons, (eye doctor and hand surgeon), months waiting,
all to be put off.

Anyway, hopefully this just stays a cold and nothing more.  Waiting for a new
date to reschedule.

Hope all is well with everyone.

Best wishes,

Janine Krebs

Nicholas' surgery scheduled for next week at Shriners in SC has been
postponed due to renovations of the OR that are still not complete... they
gave us a tentative date of June 23, but he is scheduled for his LeFort and
RED Procedure in July, so dont think we will do it that close together.  So
looks like the finger straightening may be put off til the fall after the
RED device is removed.

Dear Janine and Carol   the postponed surgeries are a real pain, you wonder
what to do with all that tension you've built up in anticipation. The smile
pasted on your heart it'll all be fine tension and the dread tension.
We've had two cancel/postponements and it made me so restless.   Sure hope
everything is resolved for you soon.  Limbo isn't my favourite place to be,
either.
Janine did I mention we got Emily's pictures  They are great.  Thanks. You
have a beautiful family. ;-)

Cristy,

It's wonderful to hear that you are going to be on your local TV.  I was just
talking to a dear friend today about a foster mom story they are doing on her
in our local newspaper.  We were talking about how the public needs so
deparately to be educated so they can teach their children appropriately
about other children with special needs, differences, etc.  Hope your story
enlightens others in your neck of the woods.

We made the final commitment (reservations) to join the crowd at Myrtle Beach
in June and are so looking forward to meeting everyone.  Will there be any
other 2 years olds going?

Janine--

We know how you feel.  It's the pits.  We've gone so far as the whole ordeal
in the morning (nothing to eat or drink, getting to the hospital by 6am,
etc.) and then had the surgery cancelled.  But, as we all know it's in the
kids best interest and we don't want to take any unnecessary chances.
Nevertheless, it is frustrating.  Thanks so much for the adorable photos.
Thanks also to Mechelle and Cristy.  Carlee and Courtney (and her sister) are
all just as precious as can be.  We will be getting ours out in the next
couple of weeks (in between end of school year activities, dance, etc.) May
has gotten to be a very hectic month.

Base from expert advise and experience when is the best time to release the
fingers. I was told by a plastic surgeon that to get a good result (
functioning well) is to do it when the kids is 4-5 years old, wasn't it a
bit late . Any comment on this?...

By the way ,last 16th April my daughter (Atikah 9 month) undergo the
procedure on releasing the coronal and sagital satures by the neuro surgeon
, she's being warded for 4 days, recovering extremly well and become a much
happier baby. I also find out that  the plastic team actually wants to have
a joint operation with the neuro to do the forehead advancement but the
neuro thinks that is not necessary - it confuse me...it 's difficult if you
don't liase with the right team. There's a possibility to have a procedure
done for the forehead next year. I've yet to set an appointment with the
plastic teamto discuss the matter. Any advise ???

Okay, I promise I will make this shorter than the others.(yeah sure)
well we saw the lastes Photos of Laura, She is sooooooooooooooo cute, big
blue eyes, and red hair, (our family loves red hair), it was great to see
them.
Then we where hit with the wammi. Laura can not come to you until, you no
longer have your special needs foster daughter, and your 31/2 year old is
too close in age to Laura.(what am I surposed to do about that, he's also a
Foster child.)
I was gob smacked (lost for words), this came from no where, and explained
a whole lot of stuff to us, This whole thing is not about Tony's weight or
references, its about us as foster parents. I couldn't beleive what I was
hearing, basically, we can have Laura only after we get rid of the foster
kids.
I understand, that they are worried about our ability to cope, but not one
of the 3 SW's i gave them to ring have had a phone call, and all 3 will
testify to our coping abilities.
In the next breath, she said that we will get a phone call about our home
study (these are done just before the kids are moved here) and they are
happy with our application,
am I dumb or is this SW giving out crossed messages.
This is what Tony and I see, yes you are good enough to adopt, but not
until you get rid of the foster kids, who I might add gave us the skills to
adopt a special needs child in the first place.
My mum is really cut by all of this, she has a special needs young Adult
daughter, who I of course lived with my whole life,(I love my sister)and is
anyone could judge my ability to cope its her, she says a big yes, and
thinks I cope better than she did.
Mum never gives in and wants us to fight to the end, we will, not for just
her, but for our foster kids (who we love dearly), for Laura, and our Bio
son (how wants a forever sister, please mummy!!!!) and for us.
If this about Fostering, they are in for one big shock, We have the
goverment minister of healths phone number and address and a letter is
being drafted at this present moment, hehehe
We hope that, just our home study will let them know we cope well, and will
cope with Laura, but if not, we are ready to fight.
As we where about to leave, she (SW) asked," if you don't get Laura, would
you take a newborn," I looked at her, and asked," but what about the foster
kids?" she said," Thats a differents situation, we would approve that."
Puzzled?, so are we, stay tuned for the next chapter, after I see the SW on
Tuesday next week, and I have all my Facts straight............I believe
its a crime to be prejudice against a fosterchild here, so the Minister
might just get the ball rolling.

Beyond mad, just want justice know,
love you guys,

Nicki, Mum, fostermum, soon to be adoptive mum, wife to 3 (nearly 4) great
kids and and fantasic husband.
CDLS, Tricuspid atresia, hemi fontan, Reflux and soon Apert syndrome are
just some of the things we deal with!!!!!

I think I should agree with Don here. Guns don't kill people, people kill
people. Senseless violence happens because there are senseless people. The
first thing to remember is that the children involved went out to retaliate
on their oppressors, while in no way do I condone their methods. This
misguided youths needed more support from their parents to help them deal
with being different. That has to be the biggest thing all parents should do
is to get their children to realize that we are all different, and that it
is not cool to pick on someone who is different from you.

I haven't weighed in on this yet, because while I think it's tragic, it's
not really a part of our regular topics.  But, Shannon has a good point.  It
is not cool to pick on someone -- regardless of the reason.  Just two days
ago, right here in sleepytown southern Alberta, a 14 year -old shot two
teens from his high school; one is dead and the other in hospital.  It is a
rural area -- probably lots of farmers keep guns around for various reasons.
Anyway, afterward, we hear that this 14yo (the shooter) was teased by
others.  He was unpopular and a loner whom others made fun of.   Didn't
anyone think to empathize with him and look to the inside and his feelings.
Didn't anyone think to invite him to play or hang out wiht them.  Did anyone
speak any words of kindness or was the shooter just a target for the other
kids' misguided sense of belongingness.  He's out, but  we are in.  What a
crock.   What a lot of hurt and heartache.  I don't condone the actions of
the shooter.  But it heightens the pain even more to think about what he has
done.

This kind of stuff isn't unique to the United States.  It's everywhere.  And
it's very very sad.

I send my thoughts and prayers for PEACE in the hearts of all those who have
lost their sons and daughters, and friends in this mess.

Sadly, in Canada,
Pat Bacon

I was going to stay out of this, because it could get unbearably
political.  However, I read something today that I think bears
repeating.  A Christian youth leader in Colorado who was instrumental
in helping kids and parents find each other after the shooting
commented:  "This is a spiritual problem -- there is  a spiritual
vacuum in our lives, in our society, in our world. And if you don't
believe it then you are missing the point."

He's right -- people living in a spiritual vacuum hurt each
other, whether it's cruel teasing or physical attacks.  I can't
imagine Mother Theresa, or Billy Graham, or Ghandi, (I could go on)
doing anything to hurt another person emotionally or physically. The
youth leader went on to ask young people to reach out to their
friends and invite them to attend a worship service  this
week. Rather than pointing fingers, why don't we ALL try that.  It
certainly can't do any harm.  If you know someone who seems
alienated, reach out and invite them to go to worship service with
you this weekend.  If you haven't been in a church in years, maybe
it's time to check one out yourself.

I,too, have stayed out of this conversation, but I have got to agree
with Judy.  These senseless actions by children are a direct result of
the spiritual void that is prevalent in our society.  I have heard so
many times that these children are from "good homes", how could this
happen?  A "good" home is not necessarily an expensive one, or in a good
neighborhood; it is a home where Christian ideas and values are talked
about, studied, shared, and practiced on a daily basis.  It is a home
where parents and children spend time together talking, praying,
attending church, socializing, witnessing, and reaching out TOGETHER to
others in need.  When kids are taught to reach out to others with
problems, to put themselves in the other person's shoes, to model
themselves after the life of Jesus Christ, then they have less time to
worry about their problems and more strength to deal with them as they
come up.
Until parents realize this, these events are going to continue.  If we
are not responsible for our children and their beliefs and values, then
who is??!!

Amen to Jone and Judy.

We need to put God back into our lives.  When are people going to realize
that-- this is what is missing.  The "peace og God that surpasses all
understanding"

Dear all.  One last word from me and then I have to be silent.  Our family
doesn't attend church. I'm not sure what I believe in, and haven't given my
children much religious instruction.  I don't invite others to worship with
me because I don't worship.  I do care for others and reach out to them and
I teach my children the same thing.  You can call it a lack of God in the
home, but I see myself practicing what others (particularly in my own
family) profess to be Christian values.  Maybe my values are more Buddhist,
or Tao or Shinto, for all I know -- I'm not familiar with those forms of
religion either.  I just know that the thread of humanity runs strong in my
household and in my family, and others can call it whatever they want.  It
isn't necessarily God, but it is not a spiritual vacuum either.

I hear what you are saying.  Just offering another viewpoint.  Not all of us
come from the same place in our spirituality.

Sincerely and finally
Pat Bacon

Hello everyone,

I have been pretty silent lately also.  I just want you to know that I =
will start to send pictures out again next week.  I just got more made.

I have received pictures of Samantha Guyette, Emily Krebs, Carly =
Williams and Courtney Holt.  I want to say Thank you.

I have to say that Carly looks alot like Lisa when she was small (Lisa =
is 9 now)

I have to get a letter written about Lisa to send along with the =
pictures and then make copies. =20

Lisa is older than the 4 girls that I have gotten pictures of.  She has =
had alot more surgeries and we feel Lisa looks really good.  We have a =
wonderful Cranialfacial team at the Mayo Clinic.  I'm excited to get =
them mailed out because I feel very good about her appearance. (It has =
changed tremendously since the last head surgery was done in 1997)  I =
wish I had more pictures of her before the surgery so you could all see =
the difference (What she looked like before her last head surgery)  In =
my letter to all I will tell you what she has all been through as far as =
surgeries.

I hope to get all out within the next 2 weeks. =20

Are some of the adults with Aperts in on our picture exchange?  I would =
really like to get some pictures of the adults along with alittle =
history about themselves. =20

If you did not get our address, it is on the address list.

I hope to get on the chat Sunday night.  It has been along time since I =
have been on.  (I have only gotten on once)

Deb Picht (Mom to Lisa Picht)

If it's just a matter of spirituality, how do we explain a priest that
molests young boys, or the crusades???  These people were not lacking in
religion.  People do all kinds of strange things and sometimes it has
nothing to do with whether ot not you have religion in your life.  The human
animal is complex and cannot be easily understood.  It's unfortunate that
some people think so little of life that they're ready to take their own or
someone else's so easily.

I can't believe you have to go through all of this.  I would be beyond mad
myself.  Why is it a different story with an infant because of the ages?  So
what are you supposed to do, just ship out the foster children that are there?

Boy, they sure don't make things easy, do they?

Hope to hear better news at your next posting.
